Lottery School
applications to be sent home
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 29, 2009) – MNPS will distribute the applications for magnet and optional schools next week. Parents interested in having their child or children enrolled in one of 29 academic and thematic magnetic, design, optional and enhanced option schools for the 2010-2011 academic school year, need to submit an application Dec. 4, 5:30 p.m.
Applications will be sent home with students next week. They can also be found at www.mnps.orgor picked up in the Customer Service Center, located at 2601 Bransford Ave. Applications submitted after Dec. 4 deadline will not be accepted. The schools listed in this year’s magnet and optional school lottery has changed from previous years. This is due to historical trends of demand and availability. The 2010-11 lottery schools are:

The lottery drawing will be held Jan. 9, 2010. Walk-through Tuesdays will be held Nov. 3, Nov. 10, Nov. 17, and Dec. 1, for families interested in touring any of the lottery schools.
*MNPS has several specialty schools including Middle College, Big Picture, Diploma Plus, and Nashville School of the Arts. Students interested in attending these schools are not selected through the lottery drawing; however, they will use the same application process and deadline.
Glenn, Park Avenue, and Warner Enhanced Option elementary schools are no longer lottery schools. However, parents may enroll siblings of current students at these schools during the district’s Open Enrollment period which will be held in March.
School bus transportation for magnet schools is not provided by the district. Metro Transit Authority (MTA) does provide city transportation, and there is cost assistance available for students on Free and Reduced Meals at certain schools.
