What Does Our School Offer?
Each of the four grade level academic wings of the building are dedicated to a different continent; Africa, Asia, South America, and North America. This theme is reflected throughout the building in several unique ways: flags fly outside representing countries from each of these continents, plants from each continent are maintained in the lobby, and animals donated by the Nashville Zoo from each continent are housed in dedicated habitats maintained by eighth graders trained as junior zookeepers.
Croft's instrumental music program is unmatched in any Tennessee middle school with half of all students participating in either band or strings. Additionally, 7th and 8th grade band and strings students perform in the largest award winning middle school orchestra in Tennessee.
Athletics is a strong part of the Croft experience for many 7th and 8th graders. Croft Cougars compete in football, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, and track.
What Makes Our School Unique?
We are a design center school with a theme of Global Environmental Awareness. Each grade level is engaged in a variety of programs for recycling, composting, and gardening. As a result of these efforts, Croft was recognized in 2004 by the State of Tennessee as its Governmental Recycler of the Year.
Because the school is located adjacent to the Nashville Zoo, opportunities for program collaboration with this institution are frequent. Eight interactions are scheduled each year. Students at Croft study at the Zoo twice a year using their facilities as classroom extensions. Zoo programs are presented as well to each grade level in Croft’s own Zoo Demonstration Room
